The Ijen climb starts very early and cold, and a gas mask (rented at the post) is needed near the crater — most riders park at Paltuding and hike. Crossing to Bali, the Ketapang–Gilimanuk ferry runs around the clock.

Can I ride to Ijen?
Yes — the road to Paltuding is fine on a scooter, then you hike to the crater. Start around midnight for the blue fire, dress warm, and rent a gas mask at the post.
