To charter a private boat for Komodo, you depart from Labuan Bajo harbour and book the whole vessel for your group, not a per-seat ticket. Private liveaboard phinisi charters start from roughly Rp 28,000,000 per trip and run up to about Rp 110,000,000 per trip for large luxury boats, depending on the vessel, season, and group size. Day-trip speedboats are a cheaper single-day option.

A private charter is the difference between a fixed-schedule group tour and a trip that bends to your group. The boat is yours, the route is yours, and the pace is yours. Below is everything we tell our own guests before they book.

What a Private Komodo Charter Includes

When you charter privately, the whole boat belongs to your group for the length of the trip. No strangers, no shared schedule, no waiting on other passengers at every stop.

A typical private charter covers the boat itself, the crew (captain and deckhands), fuel for the planned route, and your cabins on multi-day trips. Most boats include a cook and basic meals onboard. Snorkelling gear is commonly provided, though quality varies by boat, so always confirm.

What is usually not included: the Komodo National Park entrance and conservation fees, which are paid per person and set by the park authority. Drinks beyond water, premium equipment, and tips are also typically extra. We list inclusions clearly per boat before you commit, so there are no surprises at the dock.

Boat Types: Day-Trip Speedboat vs Multi-Day Phinisi Liveaboard

There are two main ways to see Komodo by private boat, and they suit very different trips.

Day-trip speedboat. A fast single-day charter with no overnight stay. You leave Labuan Bajo in the morning, hit a handful of close highlights, and return by evening. This is the budget-friendly choice and works well if you have only one day, prefer to sleep on land, or want to test the waters before a longer trip. Day-trip speedboat charters run from about Rp 10,000,000 to Rp 30,000,000 per day, depending on the boat and your group size.

Multi-day phinisi liveaboard. A traditional wooden phinisi (or modern yacht) where you sleep onboard for one or more nights. This is how you reach the further, quieter spots that a single day cannot cover. Common packages are Day Trip, 2D1N (two days, one night), and 3D2N (three days, two nights). Phinisi charters are priced per trip for the whole boat, not per person, which makes them excellent value for a group splitting one price.

If you want Padar at sunrise, Manta Point before the crowds, and unhurried snorkelling, the liveaboard is the trip to take.

Komodo Charter Price Tiers (Approximate)

Prices below are approximate and depend on the boat, the season, and your group size. High season (roughly June to September) runs higher, and the largest luxury vessels sit at the top of the range. Treat these as planning brackets, not fixed quotes.

Boat class / trip Approx. price Pricing basis Best for
Day-trip speedboat Rp 10,000,000 to Rp 30,000,000 per day Per trip (whole boat) One day, sleep on land, smaller budget
Entry phinisi liveaboard From ~Rp 28,000,000 per trip Per trip (whole boat) Couples and small groups, 2D1N–3D2N
Mid-tier phinisi Within the ~Rp 28M–110M range Per trip (whole boat) Families and groups wanting more comfort
Large luxury phinisi / yacht Up to ~Rp 110,000,000 per trip Per trip (whole boat) Big groups, premium cabins, longer trips

Private liveaboard phinisi charters start from roughly Rp 28,000,000 per trip at the entry tier. Large luxury vessels reach about Rp 110,000,000 per trip. Because the price is for the whole boat, the per-person cost drops as your group grows.

Sample 3D2N Komodo Itinerary

Every charter is customisable, but this is a popular three-day, two-night route that balances the big sights with real snorkelling time. Your captain adjusts the order based on tides, weather, and where the mantas are feeding that week.

Day 1. Depart Labuan Bajo mid-morning. Cruise to Kalong Island area, then settle in for snorkelling at a calm reef. Anchor near Kanawa or Kalong for the first night, with a sunset on deck.

Day 2. Early start for the Padar Island viewpoint hike, the postcard shot of three bays. Continue to Pink Beach for its rose-coloured sand and easy snorkelling. Visit Komodo or Rinca island with a ranger to see the Komodo dragons up close. If you are curious how the real dragons differ from the smaller water monitors you may also spot, read our guide on Komodo vs biawak. Overnight at anchor.

Day 3. Snorkel at Manta Point for a chance to swim with manta rays, then stop at Taka Makassar, a thin sandbar in open water. Return to Labuan Bajo by afternoon.

This route can stretch to 4D3N for a slower pace or compress into 2D1N if your time is tight.

How to Book a Komodo Charter (Through Us)

We are a curated local operator, not a marketplace. That means you book through Bajo Rental, and we match you to a vetted boat that fits your group, dates, and budget. You deal with one team, not a dozen separate boat owners.

Here is how it works in practice:

  1. Tell us your trip. Group size, dates, nights onboard, and budget bracket.
  2. We match the boat. We shortlist vessels from our fleet that fit, with honest notes on cabins, condition, and inclusions.
  3. You confirm and pay a deposit. We hold your dates with a deposit, then settle the balance before departure.
  4. You sail. Our crew handles the rest, and we stay reachable throughout your trip.

Because we own the relationship end to end, any issue onboard is ours to fix, not something you chase with a stranger. Browse the fleet at /rentals/boats, and if you are pairing the boat with land days, see our Labuan Bajo motorbike rental guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a private Komodo boat charter cost?

Private liveaboard phinisi charters start from roughly Rp 28,000,000 per trip at the entry tier. Large luxury vessels run up to about Rp 110,000,000 per trip. Single-day speedboat charters run from about Rp 10,000,000 to Rp 30,000,000 per day. All prices vary by boat, season, and group size.

Is the price per person or for the whole boat?

For private charters, the price is for the whole boat, not per person. Your group splits one price, so the more people you bring, the lower the cost each.

What is the best length for a Komodo trip?

A 3D2N liveaboard is the sweet spot for most travellers, since it reaches the further spots like Manta Point and Taka Makassar without rushing. A day-trip speedboat works if you only have one day. A 2D1N is a solid middle option.

When is the best time to charter?

The dry season, roughly April to October, has the calmest seas and clearest water. June to September is peak season with higher prices and busier sites. Shoulder months can offer better value with still-good conditions.

Are park fees and meals included?

Most charters include the boat, crew, fuel, and basic onboard meals. Komodo National Park entrance and conservation fees are usually paid separately per person. We confirm exactly what each boat includes before you book.

Will I actually see Komodo dragons?

Yes. The standard route includes a guided walk on Komodo or Rinca island with a park ranger, where dragons are reliably seen in the wild. Rangers escort every group for safety.
